„My name is Victoria Spring. I like to sleep and I like to blog. Last year – before all that stuff with Charlie and before I had to face the harsh realities of A-Levels and university applications and the fact that one day I really will have to start talking to people – I had friends. Things were very different, I guess, but that’s all over now. Now there’s Solitaire. And Michael Holden.” On the one hand 16-year-old Tori suddenly is confronted with Michael Holden, who – with his enthusiasm and black hipster glasses – embodies everything that she despises, but on the other hand she is fascinated by his zest for life.

In addition to that there is Solitaire, a mysterious group of students at her school who absolutely do not want to reveal their identity and constantly cause some sort of mischief. Tori is intrigued by this group and makes it her job to solve the mystery.

This incredible debut novel is perfect for all those teenagers appreciating novels by John Green and other unflinchingly honest writers. Additionally it will maybe remind the teachers of the voice of „good old“ Holden Caulfield telling his story. Mag. Peter Fuschelberger will provide extracts from the book for those students attending the lecture so that they are familiar with the text and are able to converse with the author.

Alice Oseman was born in Kent, UK, on the 16th october 1994. She wrote her debut novel at the age of 17, being still a student. Doing research for this novel in which she writes about „passionately pessimistic“ teenagers permanetly surfing the internet was easy, because this is exactly what she did herself at that time. At present she studies English literature at prestigious Durham University and still spends a lot of time on Twitter and Tumblr: www.chronic-pessimist.tumblr.com
